Norfolk Southern Corporation and Florida East Coast Railway (FEC) have announced a significant expansion of their international and domestic interline services through the Florida Express service. This service, which has Crowley as its anchor customer, establishes a two-way transportation solution connecting South Florida and Charlotte, North Carolina. The initiative aims to enhance the efficiency and growth opportunities for both domestic and international customers, reflecting a strong partnership between the two railroads and their commitment to unlocking new supply chain pathways.

The Florida Express leverages a steel wheel interchange in Jacksonville, Florida, facilitating operations in both directions and expanding services for customers seeking global market access via South Florida’s ports. Luis Hernandez, VP of Intermodal for FEC, emphasized the importance of reaching additional markets and providing shippers with efficient options into Florida’s primary markets.

Crowley, a US-based logistics and solutions company, plans to use the Florida Express to support the textile industry, enabling the movement of goods to and from Charlotte for garment and apparel manufacturing. North Carolina, being a leader in US textile exports and home to a substantial textile mill industry, stands to benefit significantly from this enhanced supply chain efficiency.

Looking ahead, the Florida Express aims to accommodate a broader range of commodities, including produce, poultry, and other agricultural goods. Norfolk Southern encourages customers interested in learning more about this expanded service to contact their Intermodal division for detailed information on how to leverage the new offerings.

This expansion not only underscores Norfolk Southern and Florida East Coast Railway’s roles in driving sustainable growth and innovation within the intermodal sector but also highlights their ongoing efforts to meet the dynamic needs of their customers. By facilitating more efficient transportation solutions, both railroads contribute to the sustainability and competitiveness of the industries they serve.
